A pair of trespassers made their way into a Xi’an Famous Foods and unsuccessfully tried to cook a meal before absconding with a bag of dumplings, surveillance footage posted by the eatery shows.

The two females walked into one of the popular Western Chinese restaurant chain’s outposts around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday after an electronic lock on its door “unexpectedly disengaged due to a temporary power failure,” the chain said on Facebook.
Footage from a Nest camera set up inside the kitchen showed the trespassers “trying to cook dumplings (inexplicably, in cold water),” the post said. After their culinary attempt, the pair left the eatery with a stolen bag of dumplings.
The chain didn't say which of their outposts the two broke into.
“While we can respect that one has cravings for our food late at night, it is still trespassing, and it’s really not OK for you to feel so entitled to be able to waltz into a commercial kitchen (even if the door was unlocked, it’s still closed) and start fumbling with the equipment and food,” the chain said. “It’s not legal, it’s not safe for our guests or even yourselves.”
“Due to this intrusion, we had to do a thorough cleaning of the kitchen and throw out affected food on this lovely Sunday as we close to public,” it added.
The eatery did not report the incident to the NYPD, but did ask the pair to pay for the dumplings, as well as other expenses related to the intrusion.
“We haven’t filed a police report yet, and wanted to provide you with a chance to fix your momentary lapse in judgment (and sobriety apparently),” the chain said.
“If you do reach out soon, there’s no hard feelings, and you can continue to enjoy XFF in the future )when we are open, and pay for your food), and this will just be a funny story to tell your friends.”
