Republican Pennsylvania candidate for U.S. Senate, Kathy Barnette, joined 1210WPHT host Dom Giordano live in studio on the eve of a highly contested Primary vote for an emotional interview discussing her candidacy. Barnette has surged recently after being largely shrugged off by Senate front-runners Dr. Mehmet Oz and David McCormick, making large strides in state-wide polling, and offers her opinion on a wide range of issues, including a clarification of her ‘no-exceptions’ stance on abortion.
Prior to reaching the issue of abortion, Giordano and Barnette discuss the candidates that Barnette is running against, with Kathy focusing in on the histories of both McCormick and Oz, reinforcing the nature of her authenticity after being a mainstay in Pennsylvania politics.
Then, Giordano presses Barnette about her stance on abortion, recently making news after she stood strongly behind her staunchly pro-life stance on the topic, noting that she would not allow for any exceptions including for rape and incest.
Kathy, when pressed on whether a candidate can win with such an extreme stance, tells Dom, “I don’t know if that’s a winning message, but I am unapologetically grateful that my family saw value in my life.” Kathy continues, telling that she refuses to apologize because she is one of the exceptions to the rule and she is grateful to God because of that.
“When it comes to a mother’s life, because of technology,” Kathy tells Dom, “we can deliver the baby and if the baby should succumb to natural causes, then that’s something different,” noting that those who believe that a mother's life is always at risk are wrong, offering a solution for both pro-life and pro-choice voters.
“I believe we can’t be static, we have to listen to the people, I want to get as educated and informed as I can” Barnette tells Dom, “I have a consortium of doctors on my team, and I have asked them to help me understand, are women still dying if they don’t have an abortion? I am still learning the issue and I will move with what I learn.”
