Councilman Mark Squilla On Italian-American Lawsuit Filed Against Kenney
Councilman Mark Squilla joins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the lawsuit he and George Bochetto filed against the city of Philadelphia and Mayor Kenney over his repeated discrimination against Italian-Americans, particularly by renaming Columbus Day. Squilla explains that in changing the Columbus Day holiday it does nothing to further the social justice efforts that have regularly been perpetrated, for good reason, by the Kenney administration, so he's lost as to why something like this would happen.
Then, Squilla discusses an instance that happened earlier this week, where he was hit in with a box of chicken while walking to a downtown Dunkin' Donuts location. Squilla explains that this is a perfect symbol of how far the city has gone in allowing these types of things to fester. After making this point, Giordano asks how he could vote to defund the police as he did in the past while holding that mindset.
Gloucester City Mayor Spencer Hopes To Work With Philadelphia To Curb 'Boom Parties'
Mayor Daniel Spencer of Gloucester City, NJ, joins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss what his town is doing to combat the 'boom parties' emanating from Philadelphia, providing sound pollution to over 100 square miles of South Jersey, including Gloucester City. At these 'boom parties,' hobbyists show off their vehicular sound systems to one another without much thought for who or what they may be disturbing. First, Spencer and Giordano discuss how the town has adapted under the threat of Coronavirus, with Spencer explaining that many planned projects had to be tabled due to pandemic concerns. Then, Spencer and Giordano discuss the city's efforts to combat the 'boom parties,' with Spencer chronologically laying out his efforts to coordinate with the city of Philadelphia to bring an end to the sound pollution. Gloucester City has produced an ordinance and has written a letter to multiple politicians in and around Philadelphia, including the Mayor, and hasn't received a response.
Spencer lays out how he plans to change the situation, and promotes an upcoming Zoom event addressing the issue in conjunction with the Philadelphia City Watch.
PA State Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill Hopes To Prevent Vaccine Passports
Pennsylvania State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill of York County rejoins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss her plan to introduce legislation that would prohibit Governor Wolf from implementing vaccine passports. First, Phillips-Hill explains where the authoring of the bill currently sits, explaining that they're moving to have it ready soon. The Senator explains why she and the co-authors of the bills have taken this upon themselves, noting the tendency of the Wolf administration to follow the lead of New York state governing. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo recently launched New York's own vaccine passport program, the 'Excelsior Pass.' Then, Giordano and Phillips-Hill discuss the potential economic and civil fall out of implementing something as overbearing as a vaccine passport.
