Ocean City Looks To Condemn Paper That Levied Death Threats At Rep. Van Drew

Today, Dom Giordano led off the Dom Giordano Program by providing an update on the situation playing out in Ocean City, in which a columnist repeatedly levied threats of violence and sexual harassment toward Rep. Jeff Van Drew and his wife. Last week, news broke that a columnist writing for the Ocean City Sentinel, John McCall, left a voice mail on Van Drew’s home phone, noting that he would ‘ensure that [Van Drew] is deposed, if not dead.” This was after months of columns written by McCall, published in the newspaper, that threatened sexual harm and violence toward Van Drew and his wife. Then, Giordano discusses the media response to the tragic shooting in Boulder, Colorado, lamenting the pivot made by mainstream media after finding out that the perpetrator wasn’t white.

Rep. Matt Bradford Justifies 'No' Vote On HB103

Democratic Representative Matt Bradford, representing Montgomery County in Harrisburg, joins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss his opposition vote on HB103, a bill written by Republicans hoping to increase penalties for those who assault police officers with bodily fluids. Giordano yesterday spent time on the show wondering why anybody would vote against such a bill, and realized that a friend of the show, being Bradford, had voted against it. Bradford joins the show and notes that in the past, he was quick to support such a bill, but refuses to support this instance based on language that targets those suffering from HIV/AIDs. In the bill, it’s written that penalties increase even further if the perpetrator knowingly uses fluids infected with the virus, which Bradford wholeheartedly disagrees with. Then, Giordano and Bradford debate police reform after Giordano asks whether or not Bradford falls into the ‘defund the camp’ police. Bradford explains that he falls more in the moderate camp when it comes to police reform, but proposes and discusses changes that he believes could be made to improve the situation.

Philadelphia: The New Skid Row

In the second hour of the show, regular caller Lenny in Pitman reminded Dom of a Fox News report this week by Lawrence Jones, which took an in-depth look at the situation evolving in Kensington. In the piece, Jones noted that the Kensington section of Philadelphia echoes similar sentiments to Los Angeles's Skid Row in the 1970s. Giordano and Producer Dan explain that they're incredibly happy to see the situation being reported on a national platform, further noting the lack of interest and understanding of the tragic situation from those who don't see or feel any effect of the opioid epidemic. This turns into a conversation about the relentless electing of Democrats by Philadelphians, with Giordano asking his oft-asked question, "if people recognize the issue, why do they continue to vote for the same leaders?"
