Why Aren’t The Mummers As Popular As They Once Were?

Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by offering his thoughts on the weekend and the New Year, jumping into a discussion about what this week means, being the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol. Giordano plays back comments made by Grace Segers and Hunter Walker on CNN, two reporters who covered the incident, who claim they have PTSD after covering the incident. Then, Giordano discusses takeaways from this years’ Mummers Parade, a longtime Philadelphia tradition that usually creates controversies due to their brash satirical comedic routines. Giordano, supportive of the Mummers, asks why PHL17 cut away from a critique on the Kenney and Krasner administration and the rampant crime in Philadelphia. Then, Giordano takes a caller and debates when and why the popularity of the Mummers has fallen by the wayside, and offers his opinion on the news of another round of school closures in the face of the Omicron variant.

Should Tipping Be Mandatory?

In today’s second hour, Dom leads off the show by discussing a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer that argues that we, as a society, should stop tipping and instead implement a standard fee added into the check.
Giordano takes umbrage with this suggestion, and explains why the suggestion is rife with socialistic ideology. Then, Giordano discusses the story of a priest who denied a medical exemption based on the person’s usage of Tylenol, arguing that back in 1955, stem cells were used in testing for the medication.

Then, Ray Didinger checks in for his weekly post-Eagles rundown, this week discussing the Eagles close victory over the Washington Football Team. First, Giordano and Didinger discuss a situation after yesterday’s game, with Jalen Hurts closely skirting an injury after a malfunction at Fed Ex Field caused a wave of fans to fall from the stands onto the field. Giordano asks Didinger if he’s ever been to the stadium, and blames Dan Snyder for putting fans in such a dangerous situation. Then, Didinger offers his thoughts on the stadium, noting that it’s not a very old stadium and seems to be a bad luck charm for the team. Then, Giordano and Didinger discuss the on-field performance of the Eagles in the close win against the Football Team, and Didinger offers his thoughts on head coach Nick Sirianni.

Clarice Schillinger Makes A HUGE Announcement

Clarice Schillinger, longtime regular guest of the Dom Giordano Program, offering her expertise on school board issues, rejoins the Dom Giordano Program to make a huge announcement. Schillinger, the former President of Keeping Kids in School and Back to School PA PAC, tells why she’s decided to run for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, and explains why her experience working to get apolitical school board officials elected would succeed while holding an executive seat. Schillinger and Giordano discuss issues persisting throughout the State, with Clarice explaining that do-nothing politicos have led us to state-wide failures in crime and Coronavirus.

Then, after playing Dom’s Money Melody, Dom continues discussing crime in Philadelphia, playing back a portion of today’s inauguration press conference for District Attorney Larry Krasner’s second term, with Krasner alleging that we’re seeing a nationwide surge of progressive policies because people want to be safe. After that, Joan Cullen, President of the Pennridge School District, rejoins the Dom Giordano Program to explain why she and her district have decided to welcome in the opinions of parents in determining curriculum, going against the grain of school boards prioritizing progressive ideology over the wants and needs of parents. Conflict arose last week after a policy set forth by the board caused at least one LGBTQ book, “Heather Has Two Mommies,” to be removed from school libraries. Giordano asks about the decision, offering the progressive point of view,  with Cullen explaining that there are certain issues that should be taught when parents find the need appropriate.
