Mike Pompeo, former United States Secretary of State, joined The Rich Zeoli Show, on TalkRadio 1210 WPHT to discuss the COVID-19 lab leak scenario and how to hold China accountable for the global pandemic.

“We knew early on that this virus had come from Wuhan. President Trump called that out, so did I. We knew that the story that this had migrated from a bat seemed very unlikely scientifically and then we knew what was going on in this lab,” said Secretary Pompeo.

Pompeo continued, “This lab in Wuhan, China, where they were doing military research alongside virus research. We don’t know if these two were connected but they were also doing this really dangerous technique called gain of function where they were making viruses more lethal, more transmissible.”

The former Secretary of State slammed the politicization of lab leak theory by the media causing it to be initially dismissed by them.

“The left wing media made it political. They said ‘well if Trump and Pompeo are saying it, we can’t trust them. If it’s coming from Pompeo’s State Department, surely this is just an attempt to deflect from all the tragedy that’s taking place here in the United States.’ So they built this narrative. “

Pompeo continued, “I think a lot of the media is scared to report accurately on what the Chinese Communist Party is doing. So that combination of things, not wanting to offend the Chinese because they have business interests there. The fact it was Pompeo and Trump, I think those things all led them to discount what we were telling them.”

In conclusion, Pompeo believes if the media was honest about the hypothesis of a lab leak out of the Wuhan lab, lives could have been saved.

“The Chinese knew the answer and could [have helped] us keep people alive. That lab is still operating today, it could happen again. It was really important we get the science out and it is so unfortunate that so much of the media discounted the narrative that we had put out, which now all of the evidence points to.”
