The opening weekend of Wisconsin’s deer hunting season ended in tragedy after an 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in the chest while inside a vehicle on Sunday.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources released a statement on the incident, saying it happened in the Township of Seneca at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
An investigation into the incident found that a 41-year-old man was unloading a firearm in the backseat of the vehicle when it was “discharged,” striking the boy.
Police were called, and the boy was airlifted to an area hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital after succumbing to his injuries.
Whether the man will face criminal charges or not hasn’t been made clear at this time.
