It was nothing but monkey business when California police responded to a 911 call that was placed by a capuchin monkey by accident, according to the authorities.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office shared in a Facebook post that they received a call that disconnected on Saturday.
Dispatchers attempted to call the number back but were unable to get a hold of anyone, so they dispatched deputies to see what was going on.
But the perpetrator deputies were looking for was a monkey named Route who lives at the Zoo to You in Robles, California; they just didn't know it.
Deputies arrived at the zoo, and when they started to ask the staff who had called, none of them knew, the post said.
"Then they all realized ... it must have been Route the capuchin monkey," the sheriff's office wrote.
The theory from the staff at the zoo is that Route picked up the phone from the zoo's golf cart and started pressing buttons. The office shared in the post that capuchin monkeys are often curious.
"We're told capuchin monkeys are very inquisitive and will grab anything and everything and just start pushing buttons," wrote the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office continued saying that Route grabbed the phone and hit "the right combination of numbers to call us."
