A Louisiana musician was the victim of a gunshot wound Saturday night while performing for a crowd in a public park, but he wasn’t anywhere close to the intended target.

In fact, the bullet was shot from a half mile away.

According to a Facebook post by the Houma Police Department, they were notified at around 8:45pm Saturday night that a member of the Josh Garrett Band was struck by an “unknown object” as the band was playing in an outdoor space near the Lumiere Blues and Jazz Bistro.

Later, it was confirmed that the unknown object was a stray bullet, but finding its origin took some doing.

It was eventually theorized that it was shot as part of an incident reported 15 minutes prior in the area of Sutton Avenue and Third Street, a location that’s nearly a half-mile away.

The band was performing as part of the Luminate Houma Event. The gunshot incident is believed to be unrelated to the event.
