Beachgoers were given quite the shock over the weekend when a large shark was spotted just off the shore of Navarre Beach in Florida, sending some in a panic to get out of the water.

The shark was spotted within a few feet of those in the water, and once it became visible, many began rushing to get back to the shore, while others seemed unbothered.

Those on land happened to spot the shark and began videotaping it as it swam through the shallow waters.

While the shark swam within yards of the shore, those on sand were yelling at those in the water to notify them of the potential danger.

“Get out of the water,” one person can be heard yelling in the video.

Cristy Cox filmed the video of the shark, and she shared with the Pensacola News Journal it appeared the animal was looking for a meal.

“It all happened so fast! A dolphin was actually side by side with the shark at first and then just disappeared,” Cox said.

According to KPEL965, the pier near the beach is known for attracting fishermen who often dump their bait into the water when they’re done, which attracts sharks into the area.

“The shark was just trying to feed as they are expected and just passed by swimmers. Everyone was stunned as it moved down the beach chasing the school of fish,” Cox told the Journal. “We all just have to remember this is natural, and we are in their home, so stay alert!”

No one was reported injured by the incident, but it was not made clear where the shark went after the video ended.
