
Among the new additions Apple is rolling out in its latest iOs software update for the iPhone is a newly-created set of emojis that are meant to be “gender-neutral.”
These new genderless emojis are meant to look more androgynous than the traditional emojis iPhone users are accustomed to.
Features include gray outfits, as opposed to the usual blue (male) and purple (female), as well as hairstyles that stop above the shoulders.
Early online reviews from the LGBTQ community have been largely positive.
“Anytime we can make anyone feel more seen and included, it’s a good thing,” Jean-Marie Navetta, a spokesperson for the LGBTQ-inclusive family organization PFLAG, told Business Insider.
“We’re starting to recognize when people need other ways to express themselves ... We are really thinking about this in ways we haven’t in the past.”
