Multiple tornadoes have ripped through portions of the Florida Panhandle, causing severe damage as storms continue to hammer the state on Tuesday.

Photos and videos shared to social media showed the damage in Panama City Beach, as power lines and trees were down and property was damaged.

One video from Accuweather showed the damage done to one community, with several recreational vehicles and homes being turned over or destroyed.

The National Weather Service confirmed that at least three tornadoes have been reported as of Tuesday morning, leaving residents in the panhandle of the state preparing for high winds.

Floria Gov. Ron DeSantis activated the Florida State Guard on Monday “in response to potential severe weather anticipated across the state,” a news release shared.

The system that brought the tornadoes is expected to move across Central Florida this afternoon and evening, according to Fox 35 meteorologist Jayme King.

Several schools and universities have closed for the day in response to the storm system. However, they are expected to reopen on Wednesday after the system has passed through, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

Along with the tornadoes, heavy rain, lightning, and small hail are expected to hammer the state. Conditions are expected to improve as the evening approaches.
