Ahead of the much-anticipated midterms, President Donald Trump announced plans to deploy an "Election Integrity Army" to every state to oversee ballots and more.

And in the seemingly endless tit-for-tat of the current American political system, Trump's announcement comes in response to Democrats forming an election integrity task force.

Newsweek reported Senate Democrats had just announced their own election "task force." Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the Democratic task force is meant to combat Republican measures.

Schumer said: “Let's call it what it is: an effort to rig the system. Trump and Republicans are testing how far they can go to undermine free and fair elections because they can't win on a level playing field.”

“The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy—and right now, that foundation is under attack,” the Senate minority leader continued. “Democrats aren't going to sit back and hope for the best. We're acting early and at scale—launching the largest election protection effort in the country—to expose these schemes, stop voter suppression, and make sure the American people—not politicians—decide our elections.”

Along with Schumer, the newly unveiled task force includes other Democrats and “top election law experts,” including former United States Attorney General Eric Holder and Marc Elias of the Elias Law Group.

Trump attacked all of them when he unveiled his own election integrity initiative.

As Newsweek posited, "really, though, it's a distraction. And both sides are falling for it.

The Election Integrity Army is part of Trump's ongoing efforts to implement more voting regulations and investigate claims of ballot fraud, which he continues to say cost him the election against Joe Biden although no credible evidence has ever been presented to that point.

Still, this is what the president had to say about his new Army, from Truth Social.

The earlier effort Trump is referencing refers to the Republican National Committee's "Protect the Vote" program in the 2024 election, which involved over 160,000 volunteers who served as poll watchers and assisted with election-related litigation.

While the Democrats warn Trump's election Army is 'sinister,' point out he could bring the actual military to oversee voting places, and point out that DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin didn’t rule out sending federal immigration agents to polling places in the fall during his confirmation hearing earlier this year, others say it'll be above board and even-handed.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt earlier this year pushed back against whether Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would head to the polls come November, and said "that's not something I've ever heard the president consider."
