More than 41,000 bottles of Walgreens Nasal Spray with Xylitol are included in a recent recall due to potential microbial contamination, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
According to the notice, 41,328 of the 1.5-ounce bottles were distributed by Walgreens (based in Deerfield, Ill.) nationwide. They were recalled due to “microbial contamination of a non-sterile product,” with the “microorganism found to be pseudomonas lactis,” a bacterium.
Lot numbers covered by the recall are 71409 with an expiration date of 02/28/2027 and 71861, with an expiration date of 08/31/2027.
This is listed as a Class II recall, for “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The recall was initiated on Nov. 12 and as of this week it is ongoing, per the FDA. It listed the recalling firm as Medical Products Laboratories, Inc. of Philadelphia, Pa.
