Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts' father has stirred the pot in the leadup to Thursday night's NFL Draft.
Kelly Pitts, Kyle's dad, recently opened up about where he hopes to see his son playing in the league next season.
Kelly identified a pair of NFC East teams as potential fits for his highly touted son -- and he wasn't shy about calling out the locales where he hopes Kyle doesn't play.
If the Eagles were to draft Pitts, a Philadelphia native, the homecoming would be "the icing on the cake" for his father, a career Amtrak conductor, according to Mike Sielski of The Inquirer.
The elder Pitts has reservations about the Eagles, however, regarding the apparent "little turmoil" that led to the promotion of Jalen Hurts as starting quarterback and the ouster of former head coach Doug Pederson.
Kelly Pitts also sees the Dallas Cowboys and maverick owner Jerry Jones as a dark-horse contender to nab his son's services.
"I think Jerry's got something up his sleeve that's going to shock everyone," Pitts said. He clarified, however, that he had no specific insight into any particular team's thinking.
If either the Cowboys or Eagles were to select Pitts, it would very likely require a trade up, as the superstar tight end is projected to be long gone by the time the 10th and 12th picks, respectively, are made.
Elsewhere, Kelly Pitts seemed to suggest he'd had his fill of cold weather, and hoped his talented 20-year-old son ends up in warmer climes.
"I'm nobody's dummy," Kelly quipped. "I don't want to go to Denver, nor do I want to go to New England. I don't want to go anywhere it's cold. I've been living here 30 years and change. I'm ready for some pure heat."
Pitts is considered by many analysts to be the best-non quarterback prospect in his draft class, and is projected to go as high as No. 4 overall to the Atlanta Falcons. Most such scenarios foresee QBs going with the first three selections.
