Montgomery rolled an ankle during practice Wednesday but returned to work as a limited participant in a light practice Friday. A third-round draft pick, Montgomery has rushed 129 times for 466 yards and five touchdowns this season. Montgomery will be a game-time decision, coach Matt Nagy told reporters Friday.
Burton suffered his calf injury late in the win against the Lions on Sunday and didn't practice this week. Shaheen didn't practice Thursday and Friday as he deals with his foot injury. Both players were present and riding the exercise bike during practice Thursday. With Burton and Shaheen sidelined, the Bears will turn to Ben Braunecker, Bradley Sowell and J.P. Holtz at tight end.
As expected, the Bears also ruled out linebacker Danny Trevathan, who suffered a gruesome left elbow injury last week. The team is still mulling whether Trevathan will be placed on injured reserve. A decision is expected before the Saturday 3 p.m. CT deadline.
Outside linebacker Isaiah Irving (quad) was also ruled out. Defensive lineman Bilal Nichols (knee) was limited for practice Friday as a matter of maintenance.
Kickoff between the Bears (4-5) and Rams (5-4) comes at 7:20 p.m. CT Sunday from the Los Angeles Coliseum.
