Chicago has signed 21-year-old forward Alex DeBrincat to a three-year extension, keeping him under contract through the 2022-'23 season. The deal is worth an average of $6.4 million annually.
Selected in the second round of the 2016 draft, DeBrincat had 35 assists and 41 goals in playing all 82 games in 2018-'19. His 41 goals tied for the sixth-most in the NHL, and he was the second-youngest player in team history to reach the 40-goal mark.
In a 2017-'18 season in which he scored 28 goals, DeBrincat became the first rookie in franchise history with three hat tricks in a single season.
DeBrincat and the Blackhawks open the regular season against the Flyers in Prague, Czech Republic on Friday at 1 p.m. CT. The game is part of the NHL's Global Series.
