Chicago traded defenseman Erik Gustafsson to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2020 draft, the team announced. The Blackhawks will receive the earlier of the Flames' two third-round picks in that draft.
The move came as no surprise, given that the 27-year-old Gustafsson is set to become a free agent this summer and he had been held out of recent games for precautionary reasons. An offensive-minded defenseman, Gustafsson has recorded 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 59 games this season. That marks a downturn in production for him, as he had 60 points (17 goals, 43 assists) in 79 games in 2018-'19.
