Finley, 47, is a Proviso East product. He had a 15-year NBA career in which he played for the Mavericks, Spurs, Suns and Celtics.
Finley has worked in the Mavericks' front office for the past seven seasons.
In an interview on the McNeil & Parkins Show on Wednesday, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban stumped for Finley to become the Bulls' general manager.
"I love Michael Finley," Cuban said. "He's great at what he does. He's had such a positive impact for the Mavs. It's incredible."
As of Tuesday, the Bulls also had interviews lined up with Clippers assistant general manager Mark Hughes, 76ers senior vice president of player personnel Marc Eversley and Magic assistant general manager Matt Lloyd.
