Bulls Stand Pat At Trade Deadline

(670 The Score) Amid a rough 19-33 season, the Bulls stood pat as the trade deadline passed Thursday afternoon.

Chicago didn't make any trades despite veteran big man Thad Young and wing Denzel Valentine believed to be available. There were no indications or reports that the Bulls were close on a deal either.

The Bulls' inaction came in a marketplace that tilted a bit in favor of the sellers, as the wide-open championship race and pack of teams still in the mix for the eighth seed in each conference led to an abundance of teams interested in improving.

It turned out no one deemed the Bulls' available players attractive enough at the prices that Chicago sought. There was some thought that the 31-year-old Young could be moved after he publicly expressed his desire for more playing time in December. He has received that, in large part because of injury attrition to others, but he's still not considered a long-term piece of the Bulls' future.

The Clippers had previously expressed preliminary interest in Young, according to reports, but Los Angeles invested elsewhere by acquiring New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris. Young is under contract control for the Bulls through 2021-'22.

Valentine, 26, had fallen out of coach Jim Boylen's rotation for a long time before re-entering it recently. He's set to enter free agency this offseason. He'll be a restricted free agent if the Bulls extend him the qualifying offer.

Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson is expected to address reporters Thursday evening before the Bulls host the Pelicans.
