Bears tight end Trey Burton recently underwent hip surgery, and linebacker Roquan Smith recently had surgery on his torn pectoral, general manager Ryan Pace said at a season-ending press conference Tuesday. Beyond them, receiver Anthony Miller will undergo left shoulder surgery, Pace added.
The Bears' hope is for all three players to be ready to return around the start of training camp in July, Pace said.
Burton's procedure came after an injury-plagued season in which he was initially hampered by a groin injury that began in late August. He had 14 receptions for 84 yards over eight games before being shut down on injured reserve in November.
Burton also underwent surgery for a sports hernia last spring. He was only healthy for a small portion of training camp after that procedure.
"He never quite felt right," Pace said. "He never felt full speed to us.
"This is something that we're hoping is the underlying issue."
Smith's procedure came on his torn pectoral, an injury he suffered in the Bears' win over the Cowboys on Dec. 5 at Soldier Field. He didn't play after that. Smith posted 100 tackles in 12 games this season.
Miller will undergo surgery on his left shoulder for a second consecutive offseason after he aggravated that injury returning a kickoff in the season finale at Minnesota on Sunday. Miller missed the entirety of the team's offseason program in 2018 and is in jeopardy of that same fate again.
The Bears are also weighing surgery for quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on his ailing left shoulder, which was injured when he took a hit on Sept. 29. Trubisky missed one start with that injury to his non-throwing shoulder before playing the remainder of the season wearing a protective harness.
"We’re looking at that right now," Pace said. "So, it would be his left shoulder. Just doing the exit physicals yesterday, just kind of going through it, there’s a potential he could. We’re just going through that."
