(670 The Score) The Bears have hired Clancy Barone as their new tight ends coach, the team announced Thursday.

Barone will replace Kevin Gilbride Jr., who was fired by the Bears on Dec. 31. The addition of Barone leaves the Bears with vacancies at offensive coordinator and assistant special teams coach.

Barone, 56, began his career in 1987 with American River College and entered the NFL ranks with the Falcons in 2004. He has served as an offensive line coach and tight ends coach during his time in the NFL.

Barone most recently coached with the Vikings, serving as their tight ends coach in 2017 and offensive line coach in 2018. He didn't coach in 2019.

The Bears' tight ends struggled this past season, with none of their six players at that position surpassing the 100-yard mark in receiving for the season in its entirety.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune first reported the news that the Bears had agreed to a deal with Barone.
