(670 The Score) The Bears will unveil statues of Hall of Famers Walter Payton and George Halas outside of Soldier Field.

The 12-foot, 3,000-pound bronze statues will be unveiled outside Gate 0 of the stadium on Sept. 3, two days before the Bears host the Packers in their season opener. The statues were designed by Fisher Sculpture.

"I know Walter would be humbled to have this honor bestowed upon him, just as Jarrett, Brittney and our entire family are," Connie Payton said in a statement. "To say that I am enthusiastic about unveiling this statue to the city of Chicago is an understatement. What a proud moment for all of us and the city of Chicago. We’re not just Chicago Bears fans, we’re family."

Bears chairman George McCaskey echoed those sentiments.

"It is only appropriate that the father of professional football and the greatest player in the history of the game are being honored in this way, and perhaps no better time for the unveiling than as we kick off our centennial season," McCaskey said in a statement. "Thank you to the Chicago Park District, Soldier Field and SMG for their support throughout the process and to sculptor Chad Fisher for his artistry in bringing his subjects to life."

The late Payton, who passed away in 1999, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993. A nine-time Pro Bowl running backwho  held 16 NFL records at the time of his induction, and was the league's all-time leading rusher until Emmitt Smith surpassed him in 2002.

The team's founder in 1920, the late Halas also has a statue outside of Halas Hall, the Bears' facility in Lake Forest. That statue was unveiled in 2015. Halas served as coach of the Bears for 40 years.

Further details for the statues' unveilings will be released later.
