LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- Bears tight end Trey Burton remains sidelined from the team's practices in OTAs because he's recovering from offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia, coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday in a new revelation.

The Bears are hopeful that Burton will be ready to return for training camp in July, Nagy said. The 27-year-old Burton had 54 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns last season, his first with the Bears.

The sports hernia was "similar" to the groin injury that kept Burton out of the Bears' playoff loss to the Eagles on Jan. 6, Nagy said. Burton had the surgery a couple months ago, Nagy said without providing an exact time.

"When the season was over, we just thought, 'OK, let's pull back a little bit and let's let him get a little bit of rest, come back and see where it's at,'" Nagy said. "We did that, and he just was feeling really comfortable with it.

"No need for us to keep dragging this thing out. Let's get the thing right. We feel like we've done that."

Receiver Anthony Miller is also sidelined while recovering from an offseason procedure on his left shoulder. Tackle Bobby Massie is being held out while he manages a stiff neck.

The Bears hold four more practices at OTAs and three practices in veteran mini-camp before breaking in June.
