(670 The Score) Cubs reliever Carl Edwards Jr. has accomplished what the team asked of him at Triple-A Iowa.

Demoted just more than a week into the regular season, Edwards has been recalled to the big league Cubs, the team announced Monday afternoon. He will be available when the Cubs host the Marlins on Monday night.

Edwards was sent to the minor leagues after allowing six earned runs and walking five in 1 2/3 innings in four appearances early in the season. He has rediscovered his better form at Triple-A, posting a 2.16 ERA in seven relief appearances. Edwards struck out seven and walked two batters in 8 1/3 innings while limiting opponents to a .107 batting average. Edwards has a career 3.36 ERA across parts of four MLB seasons.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs optioned righty reliever Dillon Maples to Triple-A. He had three scoreless relief appearances for the Cubs in this stint in the big leagues, striking out six and walking five in 2 2/3 innings.
