(670 The Score) The Cubs selected Dallas Baptist left-hander Burl Carraway with the No. 51 overall pick in the second round of the MLB amateur draft Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot, 173-pound Carraway was a reliever in college and thus will project as the same for the Cubs. He had a 2.81 ERA, 124 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings across 28 appearances in 2019. He also held foes to a .195 batting average and was named first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference.

Carraway posted a 0.96 ERA in eight appearances before the coronavirus halted this season. He was considered the top reliever in this draft class, according to Baseball America.

In the third round, the Cubs selected Michigan outfielder Jordan Nwogu, who was a first-team all-Big Ten selection in hitting .321 with a .435 on-base percentage and 58 runs in 2019. He had a career .975 OPS in three collegiate seasons.

In the fourth round, Chicago took San Jacinto College North left-hander Luke Little, a 19-year-old whose claim to fame is hitting 105 miles per hour on the radar gun. The 6-foot-8 Little struck out 86 batters while walking 39 across 44 1/3 innings in two seasons at San Jacinto.

In the fifth round, the Cubs drafted Panther Creek High (N.C.) right-handed Koen Moreno, an 18-year-old who had committed to East Carolina. Moreno had a 1.62 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings as a high school junior in 2019.

The Cubs drafted Mt. Carmel High shortstop Ed Howard at No. 16 overall in the first round Wednesday evening.

The amateur draft was shortened to five rounds this year as part of the coronavirus fallout.
