Additionally, DePaul has been placed on probation for three years.
"The head coach violated NCAA head coach responsibility rules when he did not stop or prevent violations from occurring in his program," the NCAA said.
"A former DePaul associate head coach violated NCAA ethical conduct rules when he knowingly directed the former director of basketball operations to provide impermissible recruiting benefits to a recruit."
The Blue Demons went 19-17 last season. DePaul is 48-82 under Leitao's direction for the past four seasons, which have marked his second stint leading the program.
