(670 The Score) As the NBA works through if and when it can return to play this season during the coronavirus outbreak, the league is taking its time.

That includes with how the NBA is making plans to handle paying its players during the time off the court. Among those possibilities is the exercising of the force majeure provision, which would give the league a right to withhold a portion of scheduled payment to players due to games missed.

Player agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports remains hopeful the NBA can figure out a fair solution for all parties involved, as he explained on the Mully & Haugh Show on Wednesday morning.

"There's a lot of money at risk," Bartelstein said. "There's no doubt about that. But everybody in our society has the same issues. So, nobody's going to feel sorry for professional athletes, because everybody's being affected by this at an extreme level. But certainly for the athletes, it's a short window in their career. To potentially lose a big chunk of the year has an effect.

"The question is whether you wait to see if the season is going to get canceled and then make a decision at that point, or do you start preparing for that now and put the money aside and put that money into an escrow account so there's an even cash flow coming throughout the year until the next payments schedules start up in the 2020-'21 season?

"We're just trying to come up with something that works for everybody. I think the goal is, we're hoping and praying, that we can get back to playing in some form."

The NBA's plan to proceed with games remains unclear nearly one month into its suspension of play. The league is looking into a rapid-test option for COVID-19 that could be its solution to resume play at the right time, ESPN reported this week.

Bartelstein is among those waiting to see how the NBA moves forward from this situation.

"Right now, they're going to be patient," he said. "I think they could start the season as late as even the end of June, maybe the beginning of July, and go throughout the summer and try to get in as many regular-season games and certainly the playoffs. But the news cycle every day is like a month's worth of news. Things change every single day.

"Over the next two to three weeks, a lot more will come to the forefront, and then we'll have a better idea if there's a realistic chance to get back to play or not."
