(670 The Score) The Cubs have signed outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to a minor league deal, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported Thursday.

Gonzalez, 33, was released by the Indians recently after hitting .210 with two homers, seven RBIs and a .558 OPS in 117 plate appearances across 30 games. The vision for the Cubs in an ideal situation is for Gonzalez to provide a quality left-handed bat off a bench, as Daniel Descalso has struggled mightily and Ben Zobrist remains away from the team on a leave of absence.

The Cubs' 25th and final roster spot has recently been filled by outfielder Mark Zagunis and first baseman/outfielder Jim Adduci. Zagunis was recently sent down to Triple-A Iowa after struggling at the big league level, and Adduci is a 34-year-old whom the Cubs called up in part because they didn't want to "yo-yo" outfielder Ian Happ between Triple-A and the big league level, general manager Jed Hoyer said Thursday. Happ has spent the entire season in Triple-A after struggling in 2018 and in spring training.

Gonzalez is a three-time All-Star who spent the previous 10 years in Colorado before joining Cleveland in 2019.
