Powerful agent Scott Boras -- who represents many of the top-tier free agents on the market this offseason -- confirmed that much Tuesday afternoon.
"Certainly, they've been on the phone with us a good deal, a lot of discussions, a desire to become more veteran and improve their competitiveness," Boras said.
Boras represents three of the top free agents in particular who fit the profile for what the White Sox are seeking: left-hander Dallas Keuchel, left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu and outfielder Nick Castellanos. They need to add at least one proven starting pitcher and find someone to play right field.
Ryu, 32, had an MLB-best 2.32 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 29 starts in 2019, when he was an All-Star for the first time. He has a career 2.98 ERA.
Castellanos, 27, hit .289 with 27 homers, 73 RBIs and an .863 OPS last season. He played his best baseball after being traded to the Cubs in late July, hitting .312 with a 1.002 OPS in 51 games for Chicago.
