49ers star TE George Kittle (groin) inactive in opener against Bears

CHICAGO (670 The Score) -- 49ers star tight end George Kittle won't play in the season opener against the Bears on Sunday due to a groin injury.

Kittle didn't practice with the 49ers over the past week and was ruled inactive Sunday. He had 71 receptions for 910 yards and six touchdowns last season.

The Bears ruled out rookie receiver Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring). He didn't practice during the week. A third-round pick, he projected to play a key role in Chicago's offense.

The Bears' other inactives were offensive lineman Ja'Tyre Carter, defensive back Elijah Hicks, offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, defensive lineman Kingsley Jonathan and tight end Trevon Wesco.

Kickoff between the Bears and 49ers comes at noon CT Sunday from Soldier Field.
