(670 The Score) Bears backup quarterback Trevor Siemian will undergo season-ending surgery to repair an oblique injury.

Siemian will be shut down for the remainder of the season as he recovers after having the procedure, Bears coach Matt Eberflus told reporters on Friday at Halas Hall. Siemian suffered the injury during warmups prior to the Bears' game at the New York Jets this past Sunday.

Siemian played the game with the oblique injury, finishing 14-of-25 for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 31-10 loss to the Jets.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields (left shoulder) has been cleared to play against the Packers on Sunday. Nathan Peterman will serve as the backup with Siemian out.
