(670 The Score) The Bears on Wednesday claimed former Raiders offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, a 2021 first-round pick.

Leatherwood was waived by the Raiders after the team attempted to trade him. The No. 17 overall pick in 2021, Leatherwood started all 17 games for Las Vegas last season. Chicago is now on the hook for $5.9 million in fully guaranteed salary across the next three seasons of his contract.

Leatherwood provides depth for the Bears' offensive line and could compete at right guard against Teven Jenkins, who has worked in as the starter at that position. Like Leatherwood, Jenkins has been the subject of trade rumors in the preseason.

The Bears also were awarded waiver claims on defensive back Josh Blackwell (Eagles), defensive end Kingsley Jonathan (Bills), defensive tackle Armon Watts (Vikings), linebacker Sterling Weatherford (Colts) and tight end Trevon Wesco (Jets).

The Bears claimed an NFL-high six players on waivers, taking advantage of their placement of seventh in the order.

The Bears must make corresponding roster moves to clear spots for their six new players.
