(670 The Score) Bears defensive lineman Justin Jones on Tuesday was named the team's nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, a prestigious individual honor from the NFL that recognizes community service and philanthropy.
Jones was recognized for his work in the Chicagoland community. He has been an active participant in Bears community programs since signing with the team in March 2022. Last December, he personally supported a local deaf single mother with everyday items and Christmas gifts.
The 27-year-old Jones has also been a captain for the girls' high school flag football program as well as Bears Care events.
"It's a privilege and an honor to be nominated for this award by my coaches and teammates," Jones said in a statement. "I do my best to give back to the Chicago communities. Coming from a humble background myself, I want to find way to help people without expecting anything in return."
Jones will wear a helmet decal recognizing his nomination for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. The nomination is voted on by teammates.
Charles Tillman was the last Bears player to earn the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. He did so in 2013.
The Walter Payton Man of the Year award will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony during Super Bowl weekend in February.
