(670 The Score) The Bears officially placed kicker Eddy Pineiro on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon, the team announced. He has been dealing with a groin injury since August.

Veteran kicker Cairo Santos is expected to be elevated from the Bears' practice squad to the active roster, a source said. Pineiro is eligible to be activated from injured reserve after a minimum stay of 21 days as part of a new NFL rule this season.

In a corresponding move Tuesday, the Bears signed defensive end Mario Edwards to the active roster. The 26-year-old Edwards had three sacks in 14 games with the Panthers last season.

Chicago must make a corresponding roster move before elevating Santos to the active roster. The 28-year-old Santos has converted 108 of 134 field-goal attempts (80.6%) in his NFL career. He appeared in two games with the Bears in 2017.

Chicago opens its season at Detroit on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon CT from Ford Field.
