Bears right guard Nate Davis facing absence following an injury setback

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) Bears right guard Nate Davis suffered an injury setback that's expected to keep him out for multiple weeks, head coach Matt Eberflus said Thursday.

Davis was ramping up from a previous injury Tuesday when he experienced a setback in what Eberflus has called a soft-tissue injury. The Bears haven't released any further details on the injury.

Davis' injury initially occurred during practice on July 28, the Bears’ second day in full pads. He returned in a limited role Sunday and Tuesday but has been working off to the side with the team training staff since then.

The Bears have dealt with a rash of injuries early in camp and on their starting offensive line in particular. Ryan Bates, who was working in Davis’ place at right guard, left practice Thursday with an apparent injury.

Bears pass rusher Montez Sweat, safety Jaquan Brisker, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, nickelback Kyler Gordon, running back Roschon Johnson and long snapper Patrick Scales were each sidelined from practice Thursday.

The Bears aren't required to issue a formal injury report until the start of the regular season, and Eberflus has maintained a policy in which he doesn't reveal injury specifics.

Chicago will play its second preseason game Saturday in Buffalo, with kickoff scheduled for noon CT from Highmark Stadium. The Bears will play their starters, including rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, after they sat out the Hall of Fame Game.
