Bears rule out Akiem Hicks for Sunday, activate Damien Williams from reserve/COVID-19 list

(670 The Score) The Bears will be without a stalwart of their defense Sunday while also getting back a player on offense.

Defensive lineman Akiem Hicks didn’t travel with the team to Tampa and has been ruled out for the Bears’ game against the Buccaneers as he deals with a groin injury. Hicks reaggravated his groin injury in Chicago’s loss to Green Bay last Sunday.

The Bears also activated running back Damien Williams from the reserve/COVID-19 list, they announced. He missed their game last Sunday. Williams had to spend a minimum of 10 days on the reserve/COVID-19 list because he was unvaccinated, ESPN previously reported.

Williams and rookie Khalil Herbert are expected to share the workload in the Bears’ backfield as starter David Montgomery remains on injured reserve.

In other moves, the Bears flexed offensive lineman Dieter Eiselen and defensive tackle Margus Hunt from their practice squad to the active roster.

Kickoff between the Bears (3-3) and Buccaneers (5-1) comes at 3:25 p.m. CT Sunday from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
