LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) — Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds could perhaps return to action when Chicago hosts rival Green Bay on Saturday evening.
Edmunds returned to practice this week for the first time in a month as he recovers from a groin injury, and the Bears on Thursday listed him as questionable to play Saturday. On Monday, the Bears designated Edmunds for a return from injured reserve, which opened a 21-day window for him to practice and be activated. For Edmunds to play Saturday, he would need to be activated by Friday at 3 p.m.
The Bears will monitor Edmunds’ health closely before making a determination, head coach Ben Johnson said.
“If we can get Tremaine back, it's a huge bonus,” Johnson said before practice Thursday. “He was playing tremendous football before the injury. He's a huge asset in coverage, just because of how long he is, it's hard to get the ball around him when we're playing zones, and I think he's really good in our match and mans where he can match up on tight ends and running backs out of the backfield and do a really good job there.
“Tremaine could potentially really help us in that regard.”
Edmunds, 27, has enjoyed his best season in a Bears uniform. He has logged 89 combined tackles, four interceptions and a sack during 10 games this season. Veteran linebacker D’Marco Jackson has stepped in during Edmunds’ absence. He was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following a strong performance in the Bears' 31-3 win against the Browns on Sunday.
The Bears (10-4) and Packers (9-4-1) will kick off at 7:20 p.m. CT on Saturday from Soldier Field.
