DJ Moore on Caleb Williams amid Bears' struggles: 'You can’t just pinpoint it on him'

(Audacy) Bears receiver DJ Moore isn’t about to start pointing the finger at his quarterback as the team's season circles the drain.

The Bears' 19-3 loss to a bad Patriots team Sunday was a low point for a Chicago team that at this juncture is falling well below preseason expectations. The Bears managed just 142 yards of total offense, with 69 yards in the air and the other 73 on the ground. Quarterback Caleb Williams was 16-of-30 for 120 yards while being sacked nine times.

There were occasional moments where the offense looked like it might come to life. Moore had an 18-yard reception on the first play of the second half that looked like it might jumpstart the offense, but the Bears would punt four plays later.

Such results put everything under the microscope, including a postgame remark from Moore.

“Lot of man coverage,” Moore said. “Got a lot of playmakers on the field that can beat man coverage, just didn’t get it done today.”

In his weekly appearance Monday on the Mully & Haugh Show, Moore expounded on what he meant.

“Obviously we didn’t win the game, so it came down to us," Moore said. "Like I said, it was a lot of one-on-ones, and either we didn’t get the ball or, I don’t know, it just wasn't clicking to be able to just get the ball or just be able to have a chance. So it was a one-on-one game, we knew that going in, we had a lot of one-on-one matchups across the board. I think we did a good job of all winning on the different plays that were called. We’ve just got to find a way to be playmakers again.”

When asked if that was a criticism of the rookie Williams, Moore indicated it wasn’t.

“Nah, he’s got a whole lot of stuff to worry about with blitzes and stuff like that," Moore responded. "So, he can see it, if it gets there it gets there, if it doesn’t it doesn't. You can’t just pinpoint it on him because he’s got to rely on the line and then he’s got to really rely on us to get open.”
