(Audacy) The Bears are starting to see signs of what their offense can become.
Though it didn’t result in a win until Thursday night, the Bears' offense —and namely the connection between quarterback Justin Fields and star receiver DJ Moore — has become increasingly dangerous.
The Bears' 40-20 win over the Commanders on Thursday was the peak of their season, with Moore going off for 230 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He likely would've had a fourth score had a questionable out-of-bounds ruling on him in the third quarter gone the other way.
Fields was 15-of-29 for 282 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. It was a positive moment amid what has been a tumultuous stretch for Fields, who had started 12 of the Bears' 14 straight losses entering Thursday. And it was also the type of performance that can help Fields moving forward, Moore said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Friday morning.
“It definitely boosts his confidence," Moore said. "At the end of the day, everything in football is about being confident and being yourself and going out there with the flow of the game. Once the game comes to you, you’re in your zone and then you can play free and play the way you want to. Then whatever you think you may have messed up, you can get coached later. After that, either you get a win or you don’t."
Getting Moore going has been pivotal for the Bears. After getting treated like an afterthought in Week 1, Moore has seen his targets increase, and it’s paying off. In the past two games, Moore has caught 16 of his 19 targets for 361 yards and four touchdowns.
He has an idea as to why his connection with Fields keeps getting stronger.
“(It’s) his willingness to just want to be better from the weeks previous,” Moore said of Fields. “Just going out there and laying it on the line for everybody on the offense and on the defense. It flows through the team and that’s how we get a win, and that’s how we’re going to keep trying to get a win.”
