George McCaskey, Bears are in favor of banning the tush push: 'Inherently unsafe play'

(670 The Score) A proposal to ban the quarterback sneak play known as the "tush push" was tabled by NFL owners this week after there was a 16-16 split in support for and against it in informal discussions. It takes 24 votes in favor of a proposal in an official vote for it to be adopted.

One of those in favor of banning the play is Bears chairman George McCaskey, who cited player health and safety as his reasoning.

"I know they say that we don't have sufficient injury data on it, but to us it appears to be an inherently unsafe play,” McCaskey told reporters on Wednesday morning at the NFL owners meetings in Florida.

The proposal was submitted by the Packers.

The play rose to prominence in being used by the Super Bowl champion Eagles, who have had great success in utilizing quarterback Jalen Hurts on a sneak play that features multiple teammates lined up in the backfield who then push the quarterback's momentum forward toward the line to gain in short-yardage situations.
