(RADIO.COM Sports) Longtime tight end Greg Olsen announced his retirement Sunday and will be joining Fox Sports full-time for NFL coverage.
Olsen revealed his retirement on the Fox pregame showing prior to the NFC championship game between the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
“After 14 years of playing in this league, (I’m) proud of what I was able to accomplish, proud of the relationships and everything the game has given me,” he said. “But sometimes when it’s time it’s time. My time in the NFL now has come to an end. I’m excited for the next chapter and I’m excited that that chapter involves the Fox family. I’m going to be working with Fox moving forward in my post-career endeavors.”
Olsen, 35, has spent parts of the last few seasons calling games on Fox whenever he wasn't playing – whether due to injury or because of a bye week. Olsen began his career with the Chicago Bears, who selected him out of the University of Miami (FL) with the 31st overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
Olsen spent four seasons in Chicago before he was traded to the Panthers for a third-round pick in 2011. He spent nine years in Carolina, making three Pro Bowls and helping lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2015 – which resulted in a loss to the Denver Broncos.
Olsen signed with the Seahawks prior to this season, when he had 24 catches for 239 yards and a touchdown in 11 games. Olsen finished his career with 742 receptions, 8,683 yards and 60 touchdowns.
