(670 The Score) Bears quarterback Justin Fields is dealing with a hip strain and has been ruled out of Chicago’s season finale against Minnesota on Sunday at Soldier Field, coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday.
Fields was evaluated for a hip injury upon returning to Halas Hall on Monday, after which the Bears' medical staff decided it was the best course to rule him out for Sunday. Chicago will turn to Nathan Peterman as its starting quarterback.
The 23-year-old Fields missed a game in late November with a left shoulder injury. He has completed 60.4% of his passes for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 15 games while adding 160 carries for 1,143 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground.
By sitting out the finale, Fields will finish 63 yards shy of the NFL single-season rushing record for a quarterback. That was set by Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in his MVP season of 2019, when he rushed for 1,206 yards.
Peterman, 28, has played in two games this season, going 3-of-6 for 25 yards and an interception. He has played in 12 games in his NFL career, starting in four. He has struggled in those games, with three touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 32.2 quarterback rating.
The Bears will release their full injury report after practice Wednesday afternoon.
