(670 The Score) The Bears will release veteran cornerback Buster Skrine, ESPN first reported Monday evening. The move is expected to save Chicago $5 million in cap space if it's deemed a post-June 1 cut.

Skrine, 31, was entering the final season of a three-year deal in Chicago. He played 28 regular-season games with the Bears, including 12 in 2020. Skrine's campaign came to an end due to a concussion, the latest in his frightening history with head injuries. In the absence of Skrine, the Bears turned to Duke Shelley at the nickel cornerback position.

The Bears haven't confirmed the release of Skrine. General manager Ryan Pace is scheduled to address reporters Tuesday afternoon.
