(670 The Score) Forward Alex Nylander and the Blackhawks have agreed to a one-year deal, the team announced Monday.

Nylander’s contract will carry an $874,125 cap hit and run through the 2021-’22 season. Nylander, 23, missed the entire 2020-’21 season after undergoing surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee last December. Nylander suffered the injury in the 2020 playoffs.

“With Alex’s pedigree and being only 23 years old, we feel as if there is still plenty of room for growth in his game,” Blackhawks president of hockey operations Stan Bowman said in a statement. “He is just scratching the surface of the type of player we feel he is capable of becoming. This will be an important season for him to perform consistently and contribute offensively. His size and skill are a unique combination that make him an intriguing option for our coaching staff to utilize anywhere in the lineup.”

Nylander had 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 65 games for Chicago in the 2019-’20 season. He was a first-round pick of the Sabres in 2016.
