Blackhawks continue NHL Draft haul on Day 2 after major moves in 1st round

(670 The Score) The Blackhawks made eight selections on the second day of the NHL Draft, which continued Friday in Montreal.

The Blackhawks used a pair of second-round picks to draft center Paul Ludwinski at No. 39 overall and center Ryan Greene at No. 57 overall.

Ludwinski, 18, had 16 goals and 27 assists for the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL last season. The Blackhawks acquired the No. 39 pick in a trade with the Senators on Thursday that sent star forward Alex DeBrincat to Ottawa. Chicago also acquired the No. 7 overall pick in that trade in addition to a 2024 third-round selection.

Greene, 18, had 19 goals and 29 assists with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL last season.

The Blackhawks continued in the third round by selecting forward Gavin Hayes, center Samuel Savoie and center Aidan Thompson.

Hayes, 18, had 19 goals and 30 assists for the Flint Firebirds of the OHL last season. Savoie, also 18, had 18 goals and 15 assists for the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL. Thompson, 20, had 24 goals and 58 assists with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. The Blackhawks traded the No. 94 overall pick in the third round to the Coyotes for a 2024 third-round pick.

The Blackhawks concluded their draft by selecting forward Dominic James at No. 173 in the sixth round, Nils Juntorp at No. 188 in the sixth round with a selection acquired from the Hurricanes and center Riku Tohila at No. 199 in the seventh round. Chicago also traded the No. 167 overall pick to Pittsburgh for forward prospect Liam Gorman.

The Blackhawks made three picks in the first round Thursday after beginning the day with no selections in the first round.

The Blackhawks selected defenseman Kevin Korchinski with the No. 7 overall pick from the Senators. They then selected forward Frank Nazar with the No. 13 pick, which was acquired from the Canadiens in a deal that sent forward Kirby Dach to Montreal. Chicago later added the No. 25 overall pick from Toronto, selecting defenseman Sam Rinzel.

The Blackhawks acquired goalie Petr Mrazek from the Maple Leafs in the trade for the No. 25 pick while also sending the No. 38 selection in the second round to Toronto. Chicago inherited Mrazek's $3.8-million salary-cap hit.
