(WBBM NEWSRADIO) The Blackhawks will host the Blues at Wrigley Field in the Winter Classic next season, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

The league is expected to announce Wednesday that the two teams will play one another on New Year's Day in 2025. It will mark the second time the Winter Classic will be held at Wrigley Field and the fifth time the Blackhawks have participated in the signature event.

For the franchise’s 18-year-old star Connor Bedard, it will be his first taste of the NHL’s premier regular-season event.

Wrigley Field hosted the Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2009, when an up-and-coming Blackhawks squad led by Patrick Kane and Jonthan Toews lost 6-4 to the Red Wings.

The Blackhawks also played in the Winter Classic in 2015 against the Capitals at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., in 2017 against the Blues at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and in 2019 against the Bruins at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
