(670 The Score) The Blackhawks traded defenseman Olli Maatta to the Kings on Sunday in exchange for forward Brad Morrison.
The trade was a salary dump for Chicago, as it will clear around $3 million in cap space, according to reports. Maatta had four goals and 13 assists in 65 games for the Blackhawks last season. Morrison 23, has never played in the NHL. He had 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 17 games for the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL last season. He played in the AHL in 2018-’19.
The cap savings will help the Blackhawks as they look to retain the likes of goalie Corey Crawford, winger Dominik Kubalik and center Dylan Strome in free agency.
