Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu will have surgery to address left shoulder instability, will miss remainder of the season

(670 The Score) Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu will have left shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Sunday morning.

The operation will address what the team called “left shoulder instability,” an injury that had recently caused Dosunmu to miss three games and which had ailed him at various points in the season. Dosunmu returned to action Friday, scoring 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the Bulls’ overtime win against the Raptors before further medical evaluation over the weekend led to the decision to have surgery.

The 25-year-old Dosunmu averaged 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 30.3 minutes across 46 games this season, including 26 starts. He shot 49.2% overall and 32.8% on 3-pointers.

As the Bulls changed their playing style to become one of the fastest-paced teams in the NBA, Dosunmu’s ability to push the ball and relentlessly attack in transition served as one of their best weapons. He’s also a solid defender.

Dosunmu is in the second season of a three-year, $21-million contract.

The Bulls (24-36) visit the Indiana Pacers (33-25) on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m., and the game can be heard on 670 The Score.
