DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) -- The Bulls signed guard Goran Dragic after there was heavy speculation that the Mavericks would sign him following the loss of guard Jalen Brunson to the Knicks and also because of Dragic's close friendship with Dallas star Luka Doncic, his Slovenia national team backcourt mate.

In the immediate aftermath of Dragic joining Chicago, we didn't get an explanation as to why he didn't end up in Dallas. That was, until Wednesday.
In an interview with Slovenian newspaper Vecer, as translated by Matej Sportinfo, Dragic explained that he was in talks to sign with the Mavericks but the team only wanted him to play once every six games and he wasn't ready to "just sit on the bench in a cheerleading role."
The Mavericks are short on ball-handlers, so the idea that they'd tell Dragic he wouldn't see any minutes in Dallas is dumbfounding, to say the least. With the Bulls, Dragic is expected to have a consistent role off the bench. Given Chicago guard Lonzo Ball's prolonged and mysterious knee injury, Dragic could also end up filling a bigger role than expected.
